Marianne C. Raphaely

Cherry Hill, NJ

Marianne C. Raphaely, 74, of Cherry Hill, NJ died on February 5, at the Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, PA after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Mrs. Raphaely tirelessly volunteered her time to many charitable artistic, health care and educational organizations throughout the Philadelphia area for over forty years. A teacher by profession, she served recently as a trustee of the Rock School of Dance Education, the Coriell Institute of Medical Research, the Please Touch Museum, and several other charities and was a member of the Cherry Hill and Camden County Technical school boards for over a decade.

She lead the effort behind the placement of works by local artists throughout Philadelphia's City Hall as the Chairperson of Art in City Hall.

Mrs. Raphaely received many honors and awards for her work, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Volunteer of the Year Award, 2005-2006 and the Please Touch Museum's Great Friends to Kids Lifetime Achievement Award.

With natural leadership abilities, a deep sense of responsibility and a love of all-things social, she developed close working relationships and friendships with scores of people in all walks of life. Yet, her family remained the center of her world. She and her husband of 50 years raised two sons in Cherry Hill, traveled the world together and more recently cherished time spent with their grandchildren.

Raised in Trumbull, Conn, she graduated from Mary Washington College in 1959, and, after teaching grade school in Connecticut and living in California while her husband served as a physician in Vietnam, settled in Cherry Hill with her family in 1968.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Russell of Cherry Hill, NJ, her two sons, Christopher and James, a sister Kathryn Sirico and five grandchildren.

There will be a viewing on Wed. from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Holy Eucharist Church, 344 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited back to the church on Thurs. beginning 10:00 am for her Mass of Christian burial beginning at 11:00am. Burial will be on Friday at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rock School of Ballet, 1101 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 or the Please Touch Museum, 2431 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, PA 19131
