"Savadove and his company have succeeded... Under his direction, Vieux Carré comes across as a gritty sequel to The Glass Menagerie... Excellent performances" --Broad Street Review
Vieux Carre
By Tennessee Williams
Directed by Lane Savadove
In 2007, EgoPo began creating Themed Festival Seasons to give our patrons a season-long deep dive into a single playwright or theme. Fittingly, we began with Tennessee Williams, in honor of our previous home, New Orleans.
"Vieux Carre" (the French name for the New Orleans French Quarter) describes Tennessee’s early life as a young writer just coming out of the closet. Our production took the multistory home and flattened into a single plane, radically emphasizing the visceral sense of memory that surrounds this play.
Our live Jazz band helped create an air thick with New Orleans flavor.
