This world premiere theatrical staging of Langston Hughes’ 1934 American classic presents powerful portraits of race relations in America. Told with unparalleled candor, each short story offers a private view into the absurd and tragic interactions between White and Black people across systemic divides. In EgoPo’s immersive promenade staging, you are invited to attend a New Age retreat at the historic Glen Foerd Estate on the Delaware River. There you will be welcomed into each character’s room on a tour of the extravagant mansion to witness their intimate and private lives.

About Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes (b. 1902?, d. 1967) was an American writer who was an important figure in the Harlem Renaissance and made the African American experience the subject of his writings, which ranged from poetry and plays to novels and newspaper columns.

Transportation & Parking
Driving from Philly
The easiest way to get to Glen Foerd is by driving. Take I-95 N to Exit 32 towards Academy Rd/Linden Ave. Keep right at the fork and follow the signs for and then merge onto Linden Avenue. Turn left onto State Rd, right onto Fitler St, and finally a left on Milnor St and then drive through Glen Foerd's front gate.
Parking at Glen Foerd
When entering the grounds at Glen Foerd, please continue past the mansion and follow the driveway until you encounter a large parking lot on the left-hand side. Please park on each side of the gravel driveway and keep close to the cars already parked in order to maximize capacity. Please be careful of your step as it will be dark and the ground can be uneven. Follow the driveway back to the front entrance of the mansion.
Regional Rail
Glen Foerd is easily accessible via the SEPTA Regional Rail, followed by a brief 10 minute walk. If you plan on traveling via the Regional Rail, please take the Trenton line towards Trenton and be sure to get off at the Torresdale stop. There will then be a 10-15 minute walk to the mansion. Please note that the walk does go through a residential area, and may not be well lit. You can learn more about the train schedule and purchase a train ticket here.
